I turn 35 in less than a week. I started this Substack for something a little slower. Instagram is fun, but fast. I wanted a corner of the internet that feels more like a group text or a note in the mail. A space to share what’s inspiring me lately, what’s in my cart, what’s on my mind—and maybe a few life lessons along the way. So here’s something simple: 35 little joys, products, routines, and rituals that are making my life right now.
Some are old favorites, some are new discoveries, and most are things I’d happily talk your ear off about over a matcha or while setting up a game of Mahjong.
Let’s jump in.
1. Mahjong nights with friends
A few years ago Michael challenged me to find a hobby (other than shopping). I’ll have to admit, I was honestly so lost on where to even begin. It feels like as a kid you naturally find hobbies and things you enjoy, but the older you become, the busier life gets, it’s so easy to let go of things that bring you joy. My best friend introduced me to Mahjong and it been the best hobby for us.
It’s been the best excuse to get people over. So many people want to learn and we love teaching. It’s opened up our social life in the best way. If you haven’t learned, I can’t recommend it enough!
You can shop my set here. And use KJ10 for 10% off!
2. Needlepoint in the evenings
This is my other hobby that I’ve taken up in the last year. My favorite screen-free unwinding ritual. Nothing beats a canvas, some calming music, and a cozy spot on the couch. Plus, the finished product is an heirloom piece so there’s something so fulfilling know I’ll be able to pass my projects down to my kids one day.
If you want to know more like where I purchase my supplies from and my favorite designers, let me know in the comments and I can create another post!
3. The shirtdress that makes me feel effortless
It’s polished enough for work or a day out with the kids—one of those rare, versatile pieces. And it comes in a million colors and the price is so good.
4. Lake Pajamas forever
I’ve shared how many I have and at this point, it’s too many to count. Classic, breathable, and ridiculously comfortable. They’re the ones I reach for, again and again. This one is on my wishlist!
5. The Habit Stack That’s Actually Sticking
I set a simple goal: go on a walk for 30+ minutes 3x a week (because I have honestly not worked out in forever). Nothing fancy, just consistent. And it’s been working and is giving me so much life. I look forward to it throughout the week.
6. Chanel weave flats
These aren’t just shoes—they’re a statement. Effortless chic that makes any outfit feel complete. Obviously on my wishlist but these scream summer and I am obsessed.
7. My favorite lip gloss
Not too heavy, just the right pop of shine. Throw it in the pool bag, purse — I’m never not with it. My favorite shade is Pink Sugar!
8. The perfume that never fails
I love a high end fragrance and this is my 3rd LV fragrance. Michael got me this from Japan and he and I both use it! I love all my perfume from them but this one is my fave.
9. A needlepoint travel case
Because I never want to miss a chance to stitch, even on the go. And this print is done by a local Birmingham artist!
10. The perfect tinted sunscreen
Feels like skincare, looks like makeup—a daily double win. And it comes in a glow-y version too!
11. A classic raffia clutch
Versatile and effortlessly chic for any summer outing. Plus, it’s another collab with a Birmingham-based company — I love supporting local!
12. My matcha order
So, I have officially quit coffee…I know, I know — I’m depressed about it too. But when I went through a 3 month stint of constant nausea, I began eliminating things from my diet until it stopped. And the nausea stopped once I quit coffee. I tried matcha a long time ago but I got it hot and couldn’t figure out why anyone would want to drink hot grass. A couple years later, I tried it the right way — ICED! Whether you’re team almond milk or oat, I love it with oat and a little splash of simple syrup and lavender—it’s SO good!
13. My go-to dinner when I don’t feel like cooking
It’s barely a recipe, but it works every time. Boneless skinless chicken breast + taco seasoning + a jar of salsa + a crockpot = the easiest meal you will ever make.
14. My go-to summer sandals
Comfy, cute, and ready for any adventure. Linked here.
15. The rug that I’ve had my eye on forever
It’s that one piece that would look so good in my kitchen but I just haven’t pulled the trigger. And why not? It’s only $45 on Amazon.
16. A needlepoint sign you will see for forever
A labor of love that doubles as a sign I will make my kids hold until they are seniors in high school (sorry not sorry)! I am so obsessed with it and am so happy I had it done for Rhett’s first day of school (and his last!).
17. A monogrammed detail that makes me happy
I just bought this suitcase for an upcoming vacation we are going on. My last one I have for 7 years and it was falling apart. This one is the perfect blend of classic + durable.
18. The vase I keep fresh flowers in
One simple piece of decor that makes everything feel a little more pulled together. Linked here.
19. The handbag I’ve been eyeing forever
A dreamy accessory that is the perfect mix of classic + glam — basically me in a nutshell. Linked here.
20. The Bible verse that reminds me to start fresh
A short, grounding verse that’s also my life verse. Ephesians 3:20 — Our church is doing a series on this verse and it’s been so good! You can listen here.
21. The Instagram follows that always inspires me
I love following Sarah Tucker, Mary Ellen Becker, and Chapple Chandler for interior inspiration. I would like to think my home decor is a mix of the 3 of them. I love Family Savvy and Tiny Spoon (my sister!) for recipe ideas — they are the best cooks! And for fashion inspiration, I have been a long-time follower of Katey McFarlan and Emily Ann Gemma. And my most recent fave is Alex Hechart — so classic and so chic!
22. School drop-off, errands, repeat: this athleisure set does it all
It’s my everyday go-to, reliable even on chaotic days. This brand is SO soft and I literally get so many compliments every time I wear it.
23. Pool days with the kids
Chaotic, sun-soaked moments that are pure joy. This is something I’m really looking forward to this summer. I LOVE taking my kids to the pool. We all get a little sun-kissed and they get warn out — it’s a win-win.
24. The perfect hostess gift I always keep handy
Something charming—a little token of thoughtfulness. I just discovered this scent recently and I love giving a candle as a hostess gift!
25. The dress that gets endless compliments
Effortless yet striking—a piece that is perfect for any special event. Perfect for black tie, too! Linked here.
26. The prettiest packing cubes I never knew I needed
Spartina 449 somehow made organizing your suitcase feel like a luxury. These are durable, functional, and—let’s be honest—cute enough to post.
27. A home décor brand I can’t get enough of
From chic accents to simple elegance, it makes every space feel curated. It’s such a great blend of coastal + classic — Cailini Coastal hits every time.
28. My favorite pair of embroidery scissors
Yes, they’re a thing—and I’ve claimed mine as a treasured tool. I have multiple pairs of these and they are only $5. Linked here.
29. A mood-boosting playlist for needlepointing + mahjong sessions
Upbeat, classic, and the perfect background vibe. It’s oldies that everyone will know the words to.
30. The dress I’ll wear on my birthday
Even if it’s just dinner at home—this year deserves a look. And it’s the perfect vacay dress. Under $200.
31. My favorite summer sweet tea recipe
4c water + 3 decaf tea bags + 3 mint tea bags. Steep 20 min. Mix in ¾c sugar + ¾c lemonade mix. Pour over ice and pretend you’re on a porch swing.
32. A little girl’s dress that feels timeless
Something sweet, delicate, and full of whimsy. And it’s on sale here.
33. A throw blanket that’s survived so many wash cycles
The amount of Barefoot Dreams I own is too many count and this is an even better (and cheaper) version. Still soft. Still cute. Only $20!
34. The picture frame that is on my wishlist!
If it’s Mackenzie-Child’s, I’m in. I have a few pieces around my house from her and I love the charm and statement it adds to any room. I want to get this picture frame to add to my buffet and put a picture of my kids in it. I’m obsessed!
35. Celebrating 35 years
A toast to the present (and the past)—grateful and excited for what’s next!
If you made it this far, thanks so much for reading my first post!
More to come but I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I did writing it!
I’ll be writing more about all of the above—plus the occasional sale, seasonal edit, and personal moments as well! I’m so glad you’re here. If you enjoyed this post, feel free to share it with a friend.
Have the BEST day!
